Breganze, Bassano del Grappa, Veneto - 12ha. under vine - Organic viticulture 

The Gottardi family have been settled in the volcanic hills of Breganze since 1904, running a successful trattoria offering traditional Bassano cuisine. In 1999, the third generation realised their dream of becoming vignaioli, acquiring 12 hectares of vineyards. The vineyards were on unstable ground and had been lying fallow, but after two years of work, 50,000 vines were planted and organic viticulture could begin. The winery is ultra-modern, but dedicated to old-fashioned winemaking techniques, with the wines processed using gravity and pumps rarely used.
