Collection: Lise & Bertrand Jousset

Montlouis, Loire - 8ha. under vine - Organic viticulture

Bertrand and Lise moved to Montlouis-sur-Loire in 2003. Their 8-hectare estate has vineyards spread over various parcels in Montlouis, ranging between 60 and 110 years of age. Planted mostly on a mixture of clay and flint, with small parcels rich in limestone. The estate wines are all vinified initially in barrel, time depending on the cuvée and then into tank and amphora. So delicate and fragile are their vineyards and terroir in Montlouis, and so committed are they to natural farming and winemaking, like many in the Loire, the Jousset’s have seen many of the last vintages fail, due to the roller coaster of seasonal changes in the last two decades. As a result, since 2021 they have resourcefully decided to make a few wines from grapes bought from other areas and regions, even as far away as Gaillac in the South West. With these wines, the entire process is controlled by them, with them commuting to the vineyards, to arrange picking and processing, before shipping the juice back to the estate in Montlouis. These are the Exile wines.
