Grape: Syrah
Country: Australia
Region: Barossa Valley
Farming: Biodynamic

The earthly aromatics of northern rhone syrah but with Barossa sunshine. This is full of spice, leather and a black olive character on the nose. Fruits, of the dark berry kind, and a slight balsamic character on the palate. A 2 hectare parcel that this year only produced 500l. The vineyard is 88 years old and whilst not easy to work with, if Tom didn’t buy the fruit, the owner would tear up and replant. His way of saving a bit of Barossa heritage.

A Barossa native, Tom studied agriculture before moving to Italy and spending 6 years working for Sean O’Callaghan of Tenuta di Carleone in Chianti Classico. In 2007 he returned to Australia and introduced the Barossa Valley to biodynamic, low intervention, natural winemaking - total anathema at that time.  His wines have gained somewhat of a cult status over the years and despite them not being on the UK market for over two years, many have welcomed them back with great excitement.
