Vibrant and concentrated fruit, think sour cherry and wild flowers with a touch of smoke. They key red variety on Mt Etna, Nerello Mascalese produces wines that feel somewhere between Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo. Expect elegance, perfume and bright fruit but often with some structure and a volcanic edge. Each vintage of Francesco’s wines are experiments, as he attempts to find the perfect way to express the varieties and terroir of his land. He is committed to low intervention and minimal sulphur use, and sings ariettas to his tanks and barrels as they mature.
