For many, Sardinia is synonymous with the variety Cannonau (otherwise known as Grenache, in other parts of the world). If this is the grape of the Island, then Mamoiada is its Grand Cru. You can think of this like a Chateauneuf-du-Pape with a little extra ripeness from the Sardinian sun. Its full and structured but due to the high altitude vineyards and cooler nights, the wine has freshness for balance. It drinks well now but will age for many years.
