Country: France
Region: Loire (Sancerre)
Farming: Organic, biodynamic principles
Stéphane Riffault has transformed his family domaine into one of the most admired names in Sancerre. Les Chasseignes comes from limestone-rich soils, giving a wine that is both structured and intensely mineral.
The 2023 shows crystalline aromas of citrus zest, white peach, and chalky stone. The palate is sleek and energetic, with a laser line of acidity balanced by a gentle textural roundness from careful lees ageing. There’s clarity and drive, but also depth — a wine that goes beyond the stereotype of simple, grassy Sancerre.
Elegant, focused, and full of character, this is a bottle that shines with shellfish, goat’s cheese, or simply on its own as a pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc.
