Gravonia is López de Heredia’s hidden gem: a 100% Viura grown on 24 hectares of old vines in the Gravonia vineyard, a site the family has cherished for over a century. Aged for four years in old American oak and released only when ready, this is not your typical white Rioja.
The 2016 is luminous and lifted, with aromas of chamomile, quince, dried citrus peel, and honeycomb, wrapped around a subtle nutty depth. On the palate it’s both textural and electric, combining waxy orchard fruit with a saline, mineral edge and an almost sherry-like complexity that comes from slow oxidative aging. Fresh yet layered, it’s a wine that blurs the line between richness and precision.
While the red Tondonias are legendary, Gravonia shows just how magical Viura can be in the right hands—noble, ageworthy, and utterly singular. More details here.
